Afro Alpine Pharma Ltd (AAPL) is a Ugandan firm, that was formed as a joint venture between local and foreign investors. We have launched a $4.2 m project for cultivation of Artemisia Annua and extraction of drug Artemisinin from its leaves; which is used for the production of Artemisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) which is the first line of defence against malaria approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Currently, over 11 nursery sites are in use to produce 14 million seedlings of Artemisia for cultivation on 2,000 acres using an out growers scheme in Kabale district and other suitable areas within Uganda. 6,000 out growers have been contracted to produce 1,500 tonnes of dried leaves to give enough raw material for production of over 20 million anti malarial treatments (ACT).
